The Harvest Moon has risen tonight. This is the Full Moon closest - TopicsExpress

The Harvest Moon has risen tonight. This is the Full Moon closest to the Autumnal Equinox, when the moon seems really big, often extremely low in the sky, strangely extra bright, and sometimes a funny redish-orange. Astronomically speaking the time twix the Equinox and the Harvest Moon marks the seasonal transition twix summer and autumn. Due to the fact day and night become astronomically the exact same length, the full moon can actually last this complete transition period, rather then just being a single night as usual...bear in mind, thats an optical illusion, rather then a sudden change in the speed of the moons orbit or rotation around the earth. This should not be confused with Hunters Moon, another large full moon observed in October. It may come as a suprise to some...that each full moon, of each month actually has a descriptive name. but Septembers and Octobers are the only well known ones... Blue Moon is NOT one them hahaha
