The Hawksbill Turtle which is endangered as well as the Green Sea - TopicsExpress

The Hawksbill Turtle which is endangered as well as the Green Sea Turtle should never be eaten. It is called Chelonitoxism. There is no antidote. It is a form of food poisoning. Symptoms are diarrhoea, abdominal pain (cramps), vomiting, followed by kidney failure, seizures, coma and death. Mortality rate is about 15%. Mostly young and old. And even if you survive likely to have life long medical problems due to various organs being damaged. I feel very bad for the family. I know in the Philippines there is a high poverty rate, and you have to make do as you can. But you should never eat anything that is not considered a common food source. So if you dont know anyone who eats it regularly, you probably shouldnt eat it either. As a very broad rule, if a monkey or bear can eat it, it is likely edible for a human. Not so with rabbits and deer. Both of which can eat several things that will kill a human. Also. When trying any new food. Very tiny portions. You never know what you might be allergic to as well.
