The Higgs boson or Higgs particle is an elementary particle initially theorised in 1964, and tentatively confirmed to exist on 14 March 2013. Bosons contrast with fermions, which obey Fermi–Dirac statistics. While most bosons are composite particles, in the Standard Model, there are five bosons which are elementary: • the four gauge bosons (γ • g •Z • W±) • the Higgs boson (H0).
