The Hoax Religious Debate I guess you are following the thread on Child Marriage saga…So we cannot hold sound and healthy debate? We have always murdered cogent issues that will have shape our pluralism for good…on the altar of selfishness and sheer politics…hiding under the canopy of religion… I am researching for Nigeria’s Muslim and Christian geography but not successful…we have intertwined and don’t think we can create separate religious entities…for exclusively Christians and Muslims…then what of our friends who don’t believe in the two? I still argue…many of our religionists are hoax and not sincere…if we are sincerely religious people…why are we in the mess we are as a people and country? No wonder I told my friends that I did not see real Muslims-Christians unity in the Fuel Subsidy Protest last year…Everything serious that will shape our survival and build a strong foundation…is taking for granted, politicized, dubiously religionized and battered our future… It was the same thing that occurred in 1978/77 during Shariah debate at the Constituent Assembly…it was left unattended with Osoba and late Yusufu Bala Usman submitting a minority report and warning Nigeria with his book the Manipulation of Religion in Nigeria… The 80s become soaked with religious tension, the OIC saga, the 1987 Kafanchan, Kaduna, Zaria riots and the rest violence…in 2000 about 23 years after Shariah Debate of 1978-77…another debate resurrected and in less than 48 hours…over 2000 innocent lives were butchered in abattoir style… The Nigerian system is failing all of us…whether as Muslims or Christians…the poverty is not sentimental…it hit all of us…those truncating democracy are of both faiths…we meet at the decayed public hospitals struggling for life, carrying, and burying our deaths…while the rich meets at the airports on their way to access foreign medication…and sitting on our commonwealth… Look at the Senate since 1999…what have they legislated upon that has transfer Nigerians from abject poverty to wealth? What rights of Nigerians have they shield? You know the answer…just a commercialized government firm…a place of tantrum…now they have kick-start another divisive plot… When will Nigerians rise in unison and crush those responsible for our woes under religious cover?
