The Holy Name Cathedral of Chicago The Holy Name Cathedral may have its humble beginnings as a small wooden church in a remote part of Chicago IL back then, but it is now, today, one of the largest churches in the country. It is a Roman Catholic Archdiocese of Chicago which replaced the Cathedral of Sain Mary and the Church of the Holy Name which were both simultaneously met with the unfortunate incident called the Great Chicago Fire in 1871. The church has a long history, which makes it a thoroughly enjoyable Chicago charter bus visit. In fact, you can learn more about the murder of North Side Gang’s member, Hymie Weiss, during the trip because there will be people who can relate the many stories about the murder to you because the member was killed right across the street from the church. The cathedral may have survived the Chicago Fire but in 2008, the church organization declared that there would be emergency repair works to be done to extensive parts of the church because of falling pieces from the ceiling of the building and repair went on for a couple of months. In 2009, the cathedral was in danger of being engulfed by a huge fire that broke out in early 2009 which started in the top platforms. After the various makeovers the church underwent, it is practically brand new today, serving many residents from all over Chicago IL. The church offers grand personal tours to shuttle bus, coach charter, mini bus, school bus and Chicago charter bus rental visitors. Guests can explore the resurrection crucifix which is one of the most amazing sight in the cathedral. The crucifix was designed by a special artist, Ivo Demetz, and the sign is hands off mid air above the altar. Christ on the crucifix signifies the Christ who was reborn instead of the usual picture of Christ in pain. And of course, as with any cathedral of this magnitude, the most creative and beautiful thing about its structure would be the artwork embedded into the ceiling of the church. Larry Cope was engaged in 2008 to add to the original five circles artwork. Each of the artwork on the ceiling is worth a note. For instance, there would be a mythical figure rising from its own ashes which signifies rebirth, joy and triumph; and to the side of the ceiling would be Chicago rising from the Great Fire. Till this very day, the church and its followers are extremely grateful to the firefighters who fought the 2009 fire to help salvage the building which would otherwise be reduced to nothing but ashes. With so much history behind the name of the church, we are sure you wouldn’t want to miss making a short Chicago charter bus stop at this top Chicago tourist attraction. charterbuscompanies
