The Holy Spirit The Holy Spirit has been given many names and as we examine these names and what they mean it will give us a better understanding of who the Holy Spirit is and what the Holy Spirit does. In the bible we see many instances where the Holy Spirit is referred to as “The Spirit.” 1 Corinthians 2:10 but God has revealed it to us by his Spirit. The Spirit searches all things, even the deep things of God. In the above verse I conclude that the Holy Spirit not only searches all things but also that it is everywhere. The Spirit in the next scripture is described as the breath of both Jesus and God. John 10:22 And with that he breathed on them and said, "Receive the Holy Spirit There are many examples in the Bible of God breathing His Spirit as a way of breathing life into someone. Genesis 2:7 the LORD God formed the man from the dust of the ground and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life, and the man became a living being. Another example is found in the book of Psalms. Psalm 104:30 The Spirit of God has made me; the breath of the Almighty gives me life. Job in the following statement confirms that it is the breath of God that gives Him life. Job 33:4 The Spirit of God has made me; the breath of the Almighty gives me life. The Holy Spirit is called “The Spirit of Truth” in the following verses and I believe that it searches the hearts of God’s children and often times bring it to light. Have you ever went to do something wrong and a sudden feeling of guilt overwhelms you. This just may be God’s Holy Spirit making sure you are aware that what you are about to do is a sin. John 14:17 the Spirit of truth. The world cannot accept him, because it neither sees him nor knows him. But you know him, for he lives with you and will be in you. In the next verse the Holy Spirit is not only referred to as “The Spirit of Truth” but also the counselor that testifies about our Lord and Savior. John 15:26 When the Counselor comes, whom I will send to you from the Father, the Spirit of truth who goes out from the Father, he will testify about me The Holy Spirit is there to help us as a counselor that will guide us through each day as long as we will let Him. In order to be receptive to His help we must remain in a close relationship with God and that happens through prayer, the study of the Word of God, going to church, through praise and worship and through including God in all aspects of your life. John 16:13 But when he, the Spirit of truth, comes, he will guide you into all truth. He will not speak on his own; he will speak only what he hears, and he will tell you what is yet to come. The Holy Spirit is called “The Spirit of the Lord” in the following verse. Isaiah 11:2 The Spirit of the LORD will rest on him -- the Spirit of wisdom and of understanding, the Spirit of counsel and of power, the Spirit of knowledge and of the fear of the LORD -- Further on in the book of Isaiah we find that it was by “The Spirit of the Lord” that rest was provided. Isaiah 63:14 like cattle that go down to the plain, they were given rest by the Spirit of the LORD. This is how you guided your people to make for yourself a glorious name. Now let us look where Isaiah also refers to the Holy Spirit as “The Spirit of the Sovereign Lord.” Isaiah 61:1 The Spirit of the Sovereign LORD is on me, because the LORD has anointed me to preach good news to the poor. He has sent me to bind up the brokenhearted, to proclaim freedom for the captives and release from darkness for the prisoners, When you accept Christ as your Lord and Savior you learn a life giving truth. You become a child of God that now represents He that is in you and the Spirit you carry in your heart. You are no longer alone for God will never leave you nor forsake you. I know for me the knowledge as I go throughout my day that I am not alone brings great comfort to my soul. 2 Corinthians 3:3 You show that you are a letter from Christ, the result of our ministry, written not with ink but with the Spirit of the living God, not on tablets of stone but on tablets of human hearts I hope and pray my friends that these verses that I shared with you not only helped describe about who the Holy Spirit is but will also encourage you to search the Bible and find even more instances of where God’s Spirit is mentioned so that you too will be able to learn more about how the Holy Spirit can and will help you through your daily struggles.
