The Holy Spirit impressed upon me to go and look up some information on William Cowper. Let me tell you what this man did upon learning that he had to be publicly examined for a position as a clerk in the English House of Lords. He was so nervous and in agony about a public examination that he: 1. Thought a story full of lies was written in the local newspaper about him. 2. Became depressed and got some poison from a chemist and made up in his mind he was going to kill himself. 3. Tried to leave the country. 4. Decided to jump off a tower, but someone was there and he didnt want to risk being prevented from doing it. 5. On the way back to his room, he tried to take the poison but went into convulsions and couldnt get it to his lips. 6. Got back to his room and every time he tried to take the poison, he had hand spasms and he couldnt do it. 7. Tried to lay all of his weight on his knife, but the knife broke and would not penetrate him. 8. Tried to hang himself, but the rope broke from where he secured it to...TWICE! He came to himself and realized that the Blood of Jesus could erase any stain of sin, even the deep stain of him trying to kill himself multiple times. God had his hand upon him. If none of these things had happened, I wonder if Mr. Cowper would have written the words: There is a fountain filled with blood drawn from Emmanuel’s veins; And sinners plunged beneath that flood lose all their guilty stains. Lose all their guilty stains, lose all their guilty stains; And sinners plunged beneath that flood lose all their guilty stains. No matter what happens in your life, you have purpose and it must be fulfilled. Dont give up. Be blessed.
