The Holy Spirit is my GPS I am here only to be truly - TopicsExpress

The Holy Spirit is my GPS I am here only to be truly helpful. I am here to represent Him Who sent me. I do not have to worry about what to say or what to do, because He Who sent me will direct me. I am content to be wherever He wishes, knowing He goes there with me. I will be healed as I let Him teach me to heal. (T-2.V.18:2-6) Imagine you are lost in the wilderness and you need to get back home. You have a variety of ways to find your way home. You know you drove mostly south earlier so you have to head back north. Maybe you have a map and compass. Maybe there are roadsigns along the way. You can ask for directions. But guess what? You’ve forgotten about that GPS unit you have in your glove compartment! Think of the Holy Spirit as the most advanced GPS ever built. It is omniscient, always present, and perfectly accurate. It has a map of the entire earth pre-loaded, it is impossible to go somewhere that it doesn’t know about. It runs on a battery which will never run out. It never loses its signal from God, ever. It knows exactly where you are, to the exact millimeter. It tells you what you need to do to get from wherever you are to the final destination, in the most optimal way. It knows the shortcuts, the traffic situation, toll roads, speed cameras. The Holy Spirit knows everything. It is outside of time and space, but operates within its constraints to communicate with us. The Holy Spirit is the memory of God. If you are not comfortable with the term ‘Holy Spirit’ that’s totally fine too. As I mentioned before, it’s just semantics. It can be called your intuition or your Higher Self. Think of the Higher Self as you, but the ‘big you’ that has already reached your final destination. Imagine how effective you can guide yourself from that place of infinite wisdom and clarity! So why do we seem to have so much trouble with the drive of Life? Simple. Because we think we know better! We think we know better than the HS. We think to ourselves, ‘Ah, I know this shortcut, this will save me time’, only to be greeted with roadworks halfway into the side streets. Sometimes we are influenced by other people in the car. Girlfriend goes ‘Oh, why don’t we get some breakfast at the next petrol station, I’m hungry’, and you settle for vending machine coffee and a 3 day old Tesco Value sandwich even though the GPS says that there’s a quaint, friendly B&B a little further that serves fresh, extra-fluffy blueberry pancakes and maple syrup. (Yes it is morning as I write this and I haven’t had breakfast yet :)) We stop and ask people for directions, and it turns out they don’t understand English very well. Or they give us bad directions. OK, maybe sometimes you meet fellow travellers who know where they are going, and they give you detailed and explicit instructions until the next town, but they can’t give you directions for your journey, and certainly not for your entire journey! Everybody has their own route. So what happens if we take a detour from the optimal route? Does the GPS give up? Does it say go back and pick up from where you made the wrong turn? No! The GPS is smarter than that. It cares not about the past. It is only concerned with going to the final destination. Being a perfect guidance system, it re-calculates the optimal route at every junction instantly, every turn you make, whether it is on-track or off-track. It does not judge. Its singular purpose, its raison d’etre, is to get you home, as soon as possible. “A jetliner is always going off course, but through constant correction, it arrives at its destination. So will you arrive at yours.” – The Disappearance of the Universe (DU) The GPS is concerned with the NOW and the HERE. Here, at this turn, what we are going to do. Not 20 miles ahead, because that is irrelevant. In our day to day lives, we are preoccupied with decisions, junctions and turnings miles ahead which we might not even pass. Breathe. Focus on where you are right now. Be in this moment. Leave the past behind and let the present dictate the future. Going home is very simple. There are only 2 things you have to do: 1. Listen to the HS. If you want to go home the fastest way possible, listen. The speaker of the GPS is a steady, calm voice at clearly audible volume. It’s always there, no matter how loud the music in the car is, if the kids are screaming, if the police sirens are blaring. Sometimes it’s difficult to listen to it because you’re blasting music. Distractions abound on the road. The more you listen to it, the more you train your ear to hear it, even in the most noisy and chaotic situations. ‘Turn left 500 meters ahead’ is ‘Forgive your brother, he is totally innocent’, or ‘Bookmark Ken’s Blog’ ha ha. But the best way to listen to the HS? Turn all that music off, and ask everyone in the car to pipe down! Meditate. Take a slow walk in the park. Eat mindfully in silence. Let all that mental flotsam / silt settle, and the HS will come through as clear as digital radio. 2. Drive The HS can bring us to water, but it cannot make us drink. Forgiveness is where ‘the rubber meets the road’ (as Gary puts it). Forgive people and situations because they are not real. They are your projections to enforce the ego’s doctrine of separation. (I’ll go into this on another post sometime as it is of key importance). If you choose to stop for a break, that’s fine, the GPS will wait for as long as you need. The HS cannot drive for you. Only YOU can drive the car. Only YOU can decide if you want to go home. Now, there really is a vital link between Listening and Driving, and that is Trust. (or Faith if you like) Trust is the vital link between knowledge and action. Sometimes we drive in the dark, there are no streetlamps, and we can only see as far as our headlights shine. Sometimes we pass by really dodgy neighbourhoods where we see things we don’t like. Later we come out of it realising we shaved off hours because there was an accident on the main road. At every turn, we have two choices, to follow the HS, the path to God; or any other turning, which is the voice of the ego. The more we find success in our journey (we have an increased sense of happiness and freedom), the greater you will be able to trust that the HS will do its job better than you. So forgive at every turn. Slow down for the speedbumps. Make an effort to be a courteous driver. And most importantly, enjoy the drive! When you trust in the GPS, you enjoy the journey a lot more. Wind down the window when you’re driving by the coast. Look at the beautiful landscape. Enjoy all of it, in the knowing that you are going home. Driving isn’t always easy. Sometimes it goes against your instincts to take certain roads. But the right decision is always the really the same thing. Forgive. Do what perfect love would do. Sometimes it will seem like you’ve been on the same road for hours and nothing has changed, but in truth, you’ve been making tremendous progress! Keep forgiving
