The Home as a Unit of Change and Transformation The home is a governmental unit ordained by GOD that recognizes the headship of the man and the supportive role of the woman as the helpmate. It has been established to nurture children in a way that they can become effective citizens both now and in the future. When this fundamental, GOD ordained hierarchal institution is distorted or disturbed, thrown out of equilibrium, then things will essentially fall apart and the center can no longer hold. Its just like the proverb which states that “the ruin of a nation begins in the homes of its people.” So it now becomes so clear that the home as an integral part of society is the single most important element. Its not the county nor its not the state. In the entire world, the stability and peace in a nation, is dependent upon this unit called the Home. The man has been called as the head of the home. The value of the man’s role becomes apparent. The home becomes the solid foundation upon which any society stands. It teaches us the cultural and moral values and becomes the first lens through which perceive and understand the world around us. If such a foundation as significant and important as it is in a life of a child “be destroyed”, what kind of society do we expect to have? Psalm 11 vs. 3 states “If the foundation be destroyed what can the righteous do” is so applicable in this context. For if the home that is supposed to be the teacher, the protector, and the nurturer, and the giver of the first principles of life as well as allowing us to understand good and evil is destabilized or damaged, then what kind of fruit coming out of that damaged root system do we expect to have. For whether you like it or not, the ills that we see in our society and nation today, most often than not are a reflection of the condition of the home (the root). You may disagree by stating that I come out of that damaged root system, yet I am a productive citizen. You may also have your own peculiar story of how you ended up not being like the damaged root system, but this represents a very minute portion of our society and most likely, something guided you out from manifesting that damaged root system. For meaningful and impacting restoration that we truly desire to be seen in our society, the foundation which is the home needs to be very functional. As one of the recognized forms of government ordained by GOD (the house, the Church, and the State), we know that these three work together in the lifetime of an individual for the common good of society. Since the Church and the State are to only build upon the foundation that’s been laid by the home, the home becomes the most important of the three institutions. This home must be effective; the home must be well structured and if there is damage to the society, in order to fix such damage and moral decadency, it is the home that ultimately needs to be fixed (the root and the giver of the first principles of life).
