The Honda Mobilio was showcased at the auto expo, spied on Indian roads, promoted through advertisements with a famous comedian, the MPV was showcased at malls, the production began, the RS Edition was revealed, the bookings were opened and the highly anticipated Mobilio has just been launched at a price of Rs 6.49 Lakh for the petrol and Rs 7.89 Lakh for the diesel. The Honda Mobilio has beaten the sales of the Suzuki Ertiga in the Indonesian market (25000 units in 4 months) and the Indian car market being somewhat a mirror image of Indonesia, Honda is hoping for the magic to work here too. Bookings for the Mobilio have already begun at Rs 50,000/-. The petrol engine is the 1.5-litre, four-cylinder i-VTEC unit from the City sedan that generates 119 PS of power at 6600 rpm and 145 Nm of torque at 4600 rpm . The diesel is the same Earth Dreams 1.5- litre i-DTEC oil burner that generates 100 PS of power at 3600 rpm and 200 Nm of torque at 1750 rpm. Claimed mileage of the petrol and diesel models are 17.3 km/L and 24.2 km/L respectively. The Mobilio will be driven by a 6- speed manual transmission as standard (5+1R). The design is a take over from the Brio and the fascia is the exact same, save for the front grille taken from the City. The black mesh inserts into the front bumper that envelops the fog lamp enclosures and in the rear bumper that envelops the rear reflectors, slim down the bulbous MPV to a large extent and give it a sporty appeal. The Mobilio also gets a roof integrated spoiler and 10 thick spoke alloy wheels. On the inside the Mobilio has a two-tone beige black trim for India. The Mobilio is Honda’s first MPV in India. Though an MPV, Honda has managed to make the Mobilio handle like a car. Through Honda’s man maximum machine minimum philosophy, the Mobilio like the rest of Honda’s range, manages to make the best use of the cabin space, by providing narrower seats with less padding in order to increase legroom while maintaining an appropriate amount of under thigh support and comfort. The Mobilio has a A/C vents at the front and second rows, but not in the third. The third row is best suited for children.
