The Humane Society of the United States released its latest undercover slaughterhouse investigation this morning, exposing egregious abuses of calves at a plant in Monmouth County, New Jersey. HSUS provided footage and other investigative materials to USDA previously, and USDA shut down the plant on Friday. While we applaud USDA’s action to stop abuses at this plant, the agency has been dragging its feet on a comprehensive no-downer policy that includes a ban on mishandling and dragging non-ambulatory calves.
