The Hwarang Gum-do (Korean Sword) battles. Old Korea we used the Japanese Kendo bamboo sword for this but we wore no protective gear whats so ever. Allot of knocks and lumps little blood drawn. Just we sparred open hand and foot no protective equipment only your dobok. Contact sparring was part of our training in old Korea. We fought in Korean Kumite matches in the 60s....only way you win is to knock out and draw blood broken bones never stopped a match unless the fighter cant continue. You had use proper martial arts techniques no street thug tactics allowed that is a disqualification no warnings. You couldnt kick to the knees, groin or spine. Take downs, throws, etc allowed.
