The IRS has a new explanation for harassing Tea Party and conservative groups and delaying their tax exempt status until after the 2012 elections. But IRS Commissioner Danny Werfel now claims the agency also scrutinized progressive groups, and that the harassment was much wider than previously reported, and went on much longer. So there was no political targeting, and that means they didn’t do anything wrong. Well, I have two reactions to that. First, it would be more believable if their first response hadn’t been to admit they did it and apologize. And secondly, claiming that they did nothing wrong because they harassed and delayed all Americans equally is not an argument to leave the IRS alone.
