The ITI will be offering tracking with Trackleaders during this years event. Two years ago I came to the conclusion that I am a bit of a dinosaur that doesnt quite fit the mentality of modern society and probably shouldnt be the face of ITI. It was a big decision because the Iditarod Trail and the race are a passion for me. At that time I decided Kathi should be the Race Director and I would just handle the Trail logistics which is what I do best anyway. After hearing from many racers and fans that they would like to follow little blue dots on a map and seeing how well the new trackers with no sos buttons worked in the Backyard Fat Pursuit she has decided to allow racers on a voluntary basis to carry these units which will be rented to racers directly by Track Leaders. Even I have to admit it will make her very tough job a lot less stressful unless family and fans start calling her wondering why their favorite little blue dot has been stopped for several hours. This is only a test and if that happens it will probably be the last time they will be allowed. Racers opting to carry them should inform family and friends to sit tight and wait for updates. Anyone not wishing to be tracked may opt out. Regular SPOT trackers will still not be allowed and anyone caught using one during the race will be disqualified. There will be information sent out soon about how to sign up for a tracker. Folks need not look for my dot because I opt out!!! I look forward to seeing all of You out there for another great race on the Iditarod Trail. Bill M.
