The Ice-breaker Speech is the very first speech you do at Toastmasters. The objectives of this speech are to begin speaking before an audience, to discover speaking skills you already have & skills that need some attention. Cameron, who is one of our newest Members agreed to share his first speech with us here online. Thanks Cameron. Heres a little about why he joined Toastmasters: The reason why I joined was to build the muscle around public speaking as my goal is to speak in front of youth and parents to deliver my learnings from my coaching experiences. Also my intention is to be able to language my learnings to the TM group by adding value to all. Toastmasters is a comfortable environment where you can get uncomfortable and practice your public speaking. Heres Camerons Ice-breaker speech: Identity… To begin I start by quoting the amazing Anthony Robbins “The strongest force in the human personality is the need to remain consistent with how we define ourselves” We live in a world where change happens, how often… consistently, everyday. Mens role, Womans role, jobs, environment, business… it’s all changing… We have a need for certainty within us We are not certain about business, relationships, time. We are not certain about a lot. There is one thing I am certain about, that is I KNOW WHO I AM… Our identity is simply the beliefs that we use to define our own individuality. If you don’t know your identity then you freak out and become frustrated and in turn have what is called an identity crisis, then you become stuck and cant make any decisions… you lose confidence, self-belief and create a low self-esteem. We all define ourselves unconsciously. And people who are unsure about their identity see themselves as been conservative If theyre going to do something crazy or extraordinary, there are going to say… Hey, Hey, Hey… I’m not that kind of person, that’s just not me, I dont know that kind of person. If you think you are outrageous, you move differently, talk differently, you do things differently. Just as Superman acts… There is no right or wrong, but most of us have trapped ourselves in an old identity for years and never updated ourselves in who we are TODAY. So you go learn some new skills, talents, abilities. But your identity is the old you and that is who you are. You will never surpass the old identity, make the conscious decision to decide who you are. To build momentum you need to create explosive lasting change in the areas of your life that matter the most. Identify what you truly want out of life and smash whatever is holding you back. Start by establishing who you need to become to do what it will take to have the life you desire. In your time, ask yourself… Who am I? I am………………………………. I might chose to decide to change tomorrow, however this is who I am now I am a creator of possibilities An instigator of joy A catalyst of growth A producer of passion I am coach A husband A father A lover A friend A person who makes a difference A force of good A leader A challenger A model of excellence And I am just like Bear Grylls And I Freakin Rock I identify myself with the highest qualities and know that I am not yet perfect For you and I need to expand our view of who we are. We need to make certain that the labels we put upon ourselves are not limits but enhancements. That we add to all that’s already good within us, for whatever you and I begin to identify with, we will become. This is the power of belief My greatest passion is assisting others to achieve their true potential. One of the tools I have to achieve this is my experiences, learnings and knowledge in human behaviour. I am a life coach and love to assist families to be as one and individuals achieve their needs, desires and wants, You now would be curious as to what does a life coach do… I help people who are stuck in the fork in the road Weather it would be in a career, relationships, family or life itself What they really want to do is take a path they have not travelled before The reason they are stuck is because they keep making the same choices, They keep going down the same road, they keep making the same decisions. This familiar path is well wore which is where their mind is stuck and therefore their future becomes highly predictable as it is a repetition of the past. As a result of this they have disconnected from what is important… They have disconnected from a sense of direction – purpose – vision – mission. Resulting in a lack of clarity in what they need to do next or who they need to become. Showing up as symptoms expressed in forms of procrastination and self-saboteur. And because of this they have a lack of self-belief, they have low self-esteem, low sense of confidence or have stopped taking action in their life. And therefore they make the mistake of thinking that there is something wrong with them. In conclusion if you know anyone who is experiencing these symptoms in their life, this is what I do, I help them overcome this.
