The Identity of the Dragon in the Book of Revelation. 1. In Revelation 20:2 the dragon is identified as the old serpent called the Devil and Satan. 2. In Revelation 12:3-4 this dragon, the Devil and Satan is further described: 3. He is described as being red in color. 4. He has seven heads and ten horns. 5. There are seven crowns upon his seven heads. 6 His tail cast down a third of the stars of heaven. 7. He attempts to destroy the man-child, Jesus Christ, when he is born. 8. In Revelation 13:3 we see the dragon, the Devil and Satan again mentioned. 9. In this verse Satan gives his power, his seat, and his authority to the beast which is identified as the Roman Empire. Why would he do that? 10. Because he has been dethroned and unseated by Jesus Christ and cast into the bottomless pit--go back to 20:2 and 12:3-4. 11. Satan, the dragon, is seen operating as the scarlet-colored beast that carries the great whore Babylon in Revelation Revelation 17:3. Note also verses 8 and 11. 12. Satan is also seen as the beast ascending out of the bottomless pit at the end of the age in Revelation 11:7 and 20:7-10. 13. The beginning of this ascension of Satan, the dragon, from the bottomless pit is described in Revelation 9:1-11. 14. The dragon, Satan, is mentioned again in Revelation 16:13-14, where, along with the beast and the false prophet, his lies are instrumental ingathering the nations to the grand finale called Armageddon. 15. We overcome Satan by the Blood of the Lamb, by the word of our testimony, and we love not our lives unto the death (Revelation 12:9-11).
