The Illusion of Change The Change mantra is gathering momentum - TopicsExpress

The Illusion of Change The Change mantra is gathering momentum that yours sincerely is tempted to catch the bug but the change preached today is not different from the 2011 transformation or fresh air songs. It was an adrenaline-rush reflex event due to disaffection with the status quo. Unfortunately, change is never an event, it is a process which is firmly rooted in TRUTH, equity and justice rather than mere rhetoric or hope that everything will just fall in place. Those who have tried preaching the change mantra to me, my first question is for them to clearly define the change they want, is it a change of govt or change of the status quo? Most times the answer I get is a change of govt rather than change of status quo because most of those who preach change today are the status quo. They want change but are not ready to change If change of govt with the hope that everything will fall in place is what you seek, then it is not new. Our chequered history is replete with occasions where we all celebrated a new govt, only to groan and complain few months later. This is due to the fact that we all expected change while not keen to change. Also those who seek power use sweet words to cajole us while demonizing others that they are the one who have the magic wand to solve our age-long problems without considering the realities on ground. For example, prior to the 2011 polls, President Goodluck Jonathan went from one city to another identifying their peculiar problems and promising to solve them with ease. What is the story today? TAN is telling us change is never easy. The president even affirmed that there is no govt without security, that four years is enough to fix the power sector(infact that was the reason my dad voted because he has a belief that reviving the power sector will fix the economy). Sorry I digress, but after four years, has the president fixed the power sector? No! They have only succeeded in unbundling PHCN. LOL Maybe the next four years will be used to rebundle it for fixing. Matching the presidents campaign promise with delivery with respect to power shows he has failed because he gave a timeline of 4yrs to fix it, he has not been able to do that. I have saved the APCs 100days promise to Nigeria and if they win, after 100days, we will still match them with achievements. Hope we wont hear change is not easy again? Or the previous govt have so destroyed the system that 100days promise is no longer feasible? Time shall tell Yesterday, I watched a commentary on APC where they promised to reciprocate what they have done in their states at the centre. I checked the parties manifesto and compared it with what has been done in respective states (fortunately I am from an APC state). From a dispassionate point of view, apart from Kano that has been able to do much in 4yrs, others were mere rhetoric. Or is it not the same oil money that will be shared? How have the respective states diversified their economy? What have they done with education? Youth empowerment?. Employment? I mean real employment not employing 5k people and paying them 10 naira per month? Social welfare? What about agriculture? How many state can truly feed their citizens? How many can pay workers without federal allocation? What is the ratio of recurrent to capital expenditure? How have they been able to block leakages? How have they conducted elections in their respective states? How many haave domesticated freedom of information and other laws in their states?. People should be allowed to ask the right questions without being shut down, that is the reason why we are where we are today! Somehow, I want the opposition to win. I want to be proved wrong in my assertions. The change rhetoric is an emotional event that is why those who try to question the rationale or bring it to scrutiny are quickly called paid agents, betrayal, cowards, fence sitters, unpatriotic etc. That should tell you a lot but hey The truth is incontrovertible; malice may attack it, ignorance may deride it But still, the truth remains. ~Winston churchill You can now haul your stones at me #OkBye By Harry Slim. Good morning & have a wonderful day ahead.
