The Immigration Act of 1907 declared that unaccompanied children under 16 were not permitted to enter the U.S. However, when these unaccompanied kids showed up at Ellis island (many of whom were orphans and/or stowaways), they were not sent packing. They were housed and fed and cared for while immigration inspectors looked into each case. Ironically, many of these so-called “illegals” became naturalized U.S. citizens. They grew up, worked hard, started businesses, employed lots of people, made lots of money and passed HUGE amounts of wealth down to some ofpeople who are yelling loudest to “send ‘em back.” #theyarechildren #borderchildren
