The Impostor Here is a different kind of shot that is an easy set away for most of us. This is single shot, no Photoshop tricks here. Heres how: I used a sheet of glass layered with a white printer paper to get the white (or grey) opaque surface, used clear tape to attach a fork with the underside of the glass, placed the glass on books (boxes can be used too) to raise it from the table by about a foot, placed the spoon directly above the taped fork, use some white surface on the top of the table to reflect light to the top (2-3 sheets of white paper work well), used study lamp(s) to lighten the background and another one to lighten the top of the spoon. Use layers of tissue paper as diffuser and damper to control the amount of light from the lamps to get the exposure right. The background light has to be much stronger than the top light so that a nice shadow of the fork forms. Try different exposure settings to get the right exposure. A macro lens isnt needed for this shot as this isnt a macro - its just a closeup. Canon EOS 5D Mark III and Canon EF100mm f/2.8L Macro IS USM ƒ/16.0 1/200s ISO400
