The Impulse Dilemna: An impulse decision seems right, because - TopicsExpress

The Impulse Dilemna: An impulse decision seems right, because it is made when you falsely believe you have all the information. IT feels comfortable because you are used to having your impulses take you in this direction. But all you have at hand is a habit. The impulse is years of assumptions. and it is very likely that habit was made from less than accurate information, the first time, and every time. Decisions were taking you to a comfortable place, but that comfort was taking you down the wrong path. If an emotion is overpowering you and leading you to make an impulsive decision, that is the time to stop and second guess yourself. Seek counsel. Sit with the decision. Weigh it. Then do something the opposite, something that feels uncomfortable. I think you will discover a new version of yourself and in this discomfort, will have actually grown more powerful. Thank you to Jackie Simmons and Myra Sawyers for teaching me this (one a very long time ago, but it all makes sense now).
