The Independent Media Commission (IMC) launched its 8th Annual National Media Awards fondly called The NMAs on Friday 7th March, 2014 @ its headquarters in Siaka Stevens Street, Freetown. Ag. Chairman of the IMC, Commissioner Augustine Garmoh, thanked all present for gracing the launching and stated that the NMAs was here again and journalists are once more going to be appreciated for their efficient, effective and outstanding performance for the year under review (1st January --- 30th November, 2013). Commissioner Augustine Garmoh, also said that this years Awards was peculiar in many ways; it has nine (9) new categories added to the previous one and these include: 1. Best Community Radio Station in Sierra Leone 2. Best Reporting on HIV & AIDS 3. Best Parliamentary & Political Reporting 4. Best Feature Article on Agriculture 5. Best Feature Article on Gender 6. Best Feature Article on the Environment 7. Best Feature Article on Mining & Extractives 8. Best Feature Article on Business and Private Sector 9. Best Reporting on Corruption Application forms can be obtained from the headquarters of the IMC: 3rd Floor, Kissy House, 54 Siaka Stevens Street, Freetown. IMC Regional Office-East: 85 Bo/Kenema Highway, Lewabu Junction, Bo. IMC Regional Office-North: 7 Nicol Street, Makeni. Applicants should note that the deadline for the submission of all entries for the 2014 NMAs is at the close of business on Friday 21st March, 2014. The IMC stands firm to ensure that journalists and media institutions achieve the highest level of efficiency in the provision of media services in Sierra Leone. And The NMA is geared towards recognising/rewarding journalists and/or programmers for outstanding and excellent performance in their news reports, stories and programmes printed and/or broadcast during the year under review. It also encourages aspiring journalists and/or producers, to greater levels of proficiency by identifying various categories of awards and ensuring professional competitiveness between media practitioners and networks.
