The Indian government under its prime minister Narendra Modi is not going to make some special provisions for citizenship to Pakistani Hindus. These Pakistani Hindu refugees will have to live in India for 12+2 (total 14) years as refugees before they can apply for Indian citizenship. Wow ! Great ! Shri Ram had to wait for 14 years to regain his citizenship of Ayodhya... Even after 14 years, they will not become Indian citizens automatically. They will have to apply to local administration for citizenship, and then the local administration will forward their applications to Indian Home Ministry... This process will take further time. The Home ministry then may accept or reject their applications for citizenship... tribuneindia/2014/20140814/nation.htm#5 ‘No special provision’ for citizenship to Pak Hindus New Delhi, August 13 Hindus who have migrated to India from Pakistan will have to go through the usual process to get Indian citizenship and no special provisions are being made for this, the government said on Wednesday. Responding to a question in the Rajya Sabha, Minister of State for Home Affairs Kiren Rijiju said the migrants were being given long-term visa. “The process of getting citizenship in India is long. We are giving the migrants long-term visa,” Rijiju said. “For those whose parents are not Indian, they have to live in India for 12 years, and then for two full years they cannot go anywhere abroad. After that one can apply to the local administration for citizenship, which will be forwarded to Home Ministry,” he said. “Everyone will have to go through this process.” Asked if the Indian government will take steps to ensure they get compensation for the properties they left in Pakistan, Rijiju said India could not interfere in it. — IANS
