The Inner Strength of a Lonely Woman I have always maintained - TopicsExpress

The Inner Strength of a Lonely Woman I have always maintained that the strength of a lonely woman/mother is reflected in her ability to raise the children - Alone. She prays and goes through Sweat and Tears to convert weeds into beautiful flowers. I make reference to my humble familys house girl from Hela Province. My late wife and I recruited Ruth (a single mum) to work for us and became our haus -meri for almost 10 years. She would turn up at our house at 7 am and leave at 5pm each day for 8 years. I was surprised with her honesty, dedication and commitment to raising her two boys after their Father deserted them at the ages of 3 and 5 respectively. She was selling ice blocks, water and donuts to raise funds. One lunch time, I drove home to Gerehu II and realized that she was belting her two sons. I stopped at the gate and asked her why she was doing that. She replied: Em hungry na kam askim lo water na kaikai. I called her aside and told her: Ruth, my rule in life is that you never make your child go hungry. If, they ask for water - give it to them. If, they are hungry, feed them. I went up to the house and brought some water for the two boys to drink. I gave them some leftover donuts to eat too. The younger son, after drinking gave me the plastic cups and the water bottle and said: Boss man, thankyou tru. Mi full nau. The sight of them touched me. Next day onwards, I told Ruth to fry donuts and make ice blocks and continue to sell in front of the Catholic Church next to Gerehu market. She supported her two children from primary school to Gerehu High and to Pom National High. Both have finally graduated. One from UNITECH as an engineer, and the elder one from UPNG in Chemistry. Both are working in the private sector. At the time of my late wifes passing, I saw a 5th Element pull up at my gate. Ruth brought a pig and some garden food from 14mile. In her own words: Papa, Mi kam na tok thankyou lo you wantaim Mama. Yu helpim mi na two pla pikinini em habamas tumas. Mi harem nius lo mama na mi kam wantaim two pla boys. Mi kisim wan pla pig na olget kaukau for you The elder son stepped forward and hugged me...and said. Mum told us about the passing of your wife. We have come to show you our appreciation, respect and, to say thankyou for all that you have done for us. Thank you for coming... I looked at Ruth and her two handsome young men and said, Thankyou, I am humbled by your simplicity, strength and will power, Ruth. You are truly a living testimony of a helpless woman that has turned the tide of misery to success. She lamented....Aiyoooo...mama...y na yu kam helpim mi, na yu sik, yu no tokim mi? Nau yu lusim mi...how bai mi repaym olgeta samtin u givim mi... I stood in silence...watching the clouds turn into water...
