The Insect Vector Control Division and the Public Health Department have never been so poorly resourced as they are now, with equipment and morale at a low point. Some good staff are being made to look very bad by a Government that says we are ready for chikungunya and dengue but whos actions say the exact opposite. The Minister of Health has failed to demonstrate any leadership or vision for a comprehensive national response to this burgeoning burden of vector-borne diseases. The situation has gotten so bad that our public health institutions have now halted Chikungunya screening tests for persons from the Western Peninsula, due to the ridiculously high incidence of the disease. Message to the citizens: 1) Clean your yard. 2) Vote them out.
