The Inter-Monsoon period, which typically last from late March to May, is characterised by winds that are light and variable in direction and with thundery showers, at times intense, occurring mainly in the afternoon and early evening. The thundery showers are mostly caused by strong convection due to daytime heating of land areas coupled with convergence of winds. Occasionally, “Sumatra squalls” may develop and bring widespread showers with gusty winds in the predawn hours and early morning. In addition, relatively warm temperatures are common in April and May, and it is normal for the maximum temperature to reach 34 degrees Celsius on some days.
