The Internets Own Boy: The Story of Aaron Swartz available via streaming video at https://youtube/watch?v=vXr-2hwTk58 is a must-see documentary on the life & times of a modern-day Freedom Fighter, Aaron Swartz. Aaron was a computer genius who gave the world the RSS news feed standard, as well as co-founding Reddit. Aaron used all his money earned in this ventures to campaign to make public-access documents (court records, public filings, and public codes) available to the public - for free. Ultimately Aaron and his family & friends were hounded by the FBI and US Dept of Justice for his activities, charged with illegal use of a computer (hacking), and faced many years in jail. He killed himself in 2012 at age 26, rather than face further persecution for his efforts to ensure Public Records are available to the public, for free. So now, Aaron Swartz is dead, and we the People, do not have free access to our own laws and court documents. Hmmm, if I were an attorney or judge and was part of a group of attorneys & judges that were defrauding the public through misuse of IOLTA accounts (attorneys), or looking the other way while crimes were reported to my court (judges), I think making sure the People cannot freely access court documents would be a high priorty. And apparently, for the FBI and DOJ - keeping the laws and court decisions out of sight and away from any repository where basic language analysis could occur and show collusion between attorneys and judges -- is a high priorty for them, too. Funny what the FBI and US Attorneys offices representing the DOJ choose to prosecute. And which they choose to look the other way on.
