The Irish fill our prisons, our poor houses...Scratch a convict or a pauper, and the chances are that you tickle the skin of an Irish Catholic. Putting them on a boat and sending them home would end crime in this country. --Chicago Post, from the city that has one of the biggest St. Patricks Day celebrations today. Another soapbox. I tried to stay off of this stuff, but...*sigh* stupid people get to me, so hang on! One thing people forget is that mistakes of the past can affect the future; for an extreme example, Pripyat, Ukraine will be off-limits to human life for centuries. The careless actions of a few will affect millions. Germany and Japan? BMW and Mitsubishi arent allowed to make plane parts; doing so would be an act of war. You think the national debt is all Obamas fault somehow? I got news for ya, sunshine; the Korean war vets will be dead before that war is paid for (and it hasnt ended yet!) They still havent paid for the Civil War, the knuckleheads! And thats something that guys like Glenn Beck dont seem to get, when they talk about the black community. The situation of today didnt happen in a vacuum. It happened because of slavery, because of jails and chain gangs being used as slavery by proxy after the Civil War, because of White Flight (hello, St. Louis) because of every educated, self-made black man who was hanged for being uppity. Our ancestors had a hand in this. Now, I do not agree that descendents of slave owners should have to pay for the sins of their great-great-great grandfathers. I mean, how ridiculous would it be for dirt-poor Southern farmers to pay taxes to prop up Al Sharpton? But I do think its up to all of us to look at each other and realize, hey, these people are human beings just like me, and there but for the grace of God I would be in their situation. Compassion and understanding, instead of accusation, knee-jerk anger, and forgiveness would go a long way on all sides, especially since, given the current economic situation in America, I dont think itd be fair to tell the black community that, hey, youre on your own, bud. glennbeck/2014/12/04/do-black-lives-really-matter-glenn-reads-the-stunning-list-of-black-people-murdered-in-chicago-being-ignored-by-activists-and-protesters/
