The J2 Doom Train got off to a tasty start with a narrow victory over Dolphin on the 6/8/14. Clon went behind early for the craic as coming back from behind to win a game is always more satisfying. Clon were always looking dangerous especially when ever the ball was spread out amongst the backs but things really kicked off when the young Rob Howick took the game by the balls with a quick tap penalty and powered over the line stamping his mark on the game. Rob put in a great performance through out the day right up till midnight when he left his mark all over the foot path out side of Scannells. The highlight of the game was easily clons second try by Peter Dean: Clon were put on the back foot with a well executed kick by the dolphin 10 into the corner backed up by a good chase forcing the Clon winger to peg the ball into touch on the Clon 5 meter line. A wayward throw in by the dolphin hooker was snatched up by Peter Dean and off he went. belting it up the pitch He looked to be running out of steam as he got to the half way line and the dolphin winger and 15 were gaining on him from across the pitch. The 15 went in for the kill to take down the mighty Dean but the computer said no, Dean leading with his hip destroyed the poor man and that was the full backs game over. The dolphin winger in dire shock at seeing his team mate being obliterated in front of his very eyes seemed to have a brain stutter and Peter Dean was off again. It was a fierce foot race from the 10 meter line to the try line which Dean won, finishing with 2 Dolphin men hanging off his back. I can honestly say that it was the most Jonah Lomu style crazy shit I have ever seen on the Clon rugby pitch!!! Clon went behind again in the last few minuets but won the day with a superb kick by the young John Jennings ( not Henry, thats the other one) from the half way line. It was a great day for the J2 Doom Train who celebrated merrily with the lovely J1s. A special thank you to Scannells Bar for the fine BBQ!! Cheers lads!!!
