The JAZZFEST WEST CONCERT SERIES has been CANCELLED..Your Thoughts? It is with great regret that we announce the cancellation of the 19th Annual JAZZFEST WEST, originally scheduled for July 19 & 20 at Bonelli Park in San Dimas. Festivals nationwide have been facing increasing financial challenges and, sadly, these challenges forced JazzFest West to cancel this year’s event. We want to thank the fans who have supported JazzFest West over the past 18 years, as well as the artists, sponsors and volunteers who are the backbone of the festival. --jazzfestwest --------- Just wanted to get some thoughts from you all on this. The cancellation of this event was the topic of much buzz over the weekend in the artist community. I am not familiar with the event, but I am told it was a long running event in the Southern California area. Last year this was the line up: Maze feat. Frankie Beverly • Anthony Hamilton • Fantasia • Boney James, Brian Culbertson • BWB: Rick Braun, Kirk Whalum & Norman Brown, Stephanie Mills • DW3 • Eric Roberson • Sax & the City: Marion Meadows, Paul Taylor, & Vincent Ingala • AVERY*Sunshine • Julian Vaughn • Althea Rene • The Endangered. I couldnt find out what the lineup was this year, but based on the previous lineups posted on their website, I am assuming that this years line up was similar? So its yet another one of these events advertised accross the country as a jazz festival that based on the line up is really some sort of Oldies R&B/Neo Soul/Smooth Jazz Festival. Seems like there are hundreds of these types of events going on around the country, along with cruises that have similar line ups. I am not quibbling with the false advertising, Im pretty well past that.....LOL Thoughts from artists that I spoke with over the weekend ranged from.... -This is a continuation of the trend that jazz music has become devalued in our society... -There are too many of these type of events and the public has grown tired of them... -Same of same old, they just keep re-cycling the same artists and people are sick of them.... -There is gonna be less work for me going forward... -Maybe as more of these types of events are cancelled, promoters will wise up and start booking, younger & more innovative artists... -People arent interested in leaving their homes to see live music, they just wanna view live music on YouTube... What are your thoughts? ----------------- Written by > Bob Davis Of soul-patrol
