The JOURNEY - Romans 12:9-10 - Genuine - Have you ever seen a fake diamond? Fake Diamonds have very popular especially among the very wealthy. A famous jeweler upset a lot of movie stars by telling everyone that a lot of their jewelry was replicated. It was done so is someone tried to rob them they wouldnt get the real jewelry. I knew a guy that took a fake Rolex watch and pawned it for a lot of money. The pawn shop called him back. LOL! Fake is fine I guess if you want to try to impress someone but it never works in the church. You fake diamonds and Rolexs but you cant fake Gods love. Paul said Love must be sincere.... It means without play-acting or wearing a mask. The word also means to be without hypocrisy. A person doesnt just say I love you., they actually love. The believers in the church are to love everyone not just those that are like them. Genuine love doesnt place value on one person above the rest. It doesnt overlook the needs of some to appease the needs of others. A genuine Christ like love has no wrong motives attached to it. It doesnt seek its own gain in some form. The love that Paul speaks of is the love that is constantly looking our for the needs and interest of others. Its not something we say we have its the DNA of who we are. Paul says that one of the signs of genuine love is that we hate what is evil. Prejudice, favoritism, gossip, backbiting and the things that can divide or hurt others in the church. We are hate the things that keep the church from being real or genuine. Diamonds have flaws and if youre trained, you can recognize them. A diamond without a flaw is rare and extremely expensive. An experienced jeweler knows how to cut and shape the diamond to keep us from noticing the flaw and focus on all the other beautiful qualities. Thats what Gods genuine love does in His church. We all have flaws but if we allow the master jeweler, God, to cut and shape us then our flaws are overlooked and all thats seen is His perfected work. Every church is filled with flaws because its filled with people with flaws. There is only one perfect diamond; Jesus. Hes the standard God uses to shape and perfect the rest of us. Everything about Him was genuine, real and without flaw. We will never be better than Him but well look a lot better if we help people look to Him. Let His love be perfected in us. Love people and hate the flaws that hurt others.
