The Jacksonville Transportation Authority (JTA) launched the second phase of its On-Time Transit Operations (OTTO) campaign to improve bus schedules and enhance customer service. Adjustments were made to the following routes: B7, CT4, F1, L8, P4 and the Beaches Trolley (TR3.) “We saw key improvements to our routes that were adjusted last fall in the initial phase of the OTTO campaign,” said JTA CEO Nathaniel P. Ford, Sr. “The feedback we received from our customers has been positive and informative. We are excited to implement the second phase.” “Our customers make 42,000 trips a day on JTA buses. They depend on us to get to work, school and medical appointments – so it’s important to be on time,” Ford added. “Through the OTTO campaign, we are analyzing each route – starting with those most impacted by delays – to develop solutions for our customers.” The JTA started the OTTO initiative after closely monitoring 12 of the most heavily traveled routes in May 2013, when On-Time Performance measured at 65.8%. Through the work of the OTTO team, JTA is working to improve service on these routes by making schedule adjustments to all routes and adding peak-time buses to some routes, where needed. These efforts have improved OTP by nearly 14%, from 66% in May to nearly 75% through the first two weeks in January 2014. Enhancements for the second phase include: • Improving the schedules on all six routes so they are more reliable. • Adding an additional bus on the B7 during mid-day. • Adding an additional bus to the CT4 and the F1 during the day. • Adding an additional bus to the P4 route during mid-day to improve the frequency from every 72- minutes to 60- minutes. The JTA’s goal to maintain an on-time performance rate of 75% or higher and continue to strive for additional improvements. In another move to improve service, the JTA began testing NextBus, a real-time passenger information system, exclusively on the AR6 route. Customers can track their bus on their smartphones, tablets, or computers saving them valuable time. If the pilot on the AR6 route is successful, JTA intends to expand it to the rest of the system. Customers can get more information on the OTTO schedule changes by picking up a bus schedule at the Rosa Parks Transit Station, by calling JTA Customer Service at (904) 630-3100 (904-630-3191 for the hearing impaired), or visiting the website at jtafla.
