The Jews were rejecting Jesus as the Son of God. They were pretty busy keeping the daily routines going for Israel; so busy in fact, that they couldn’t take time to investigate or consider Jesus’ claims as Son of God and King come into the world. Pilate would rather have the Jews take care of their own petty problems. He hoped that it was just a simple problem; however, the claims of Jesus Christ are too big to ignore. Jesus Christ is too powerful and wonderful for us to ignore. Trouble comes only when we choose to avoid and look the other way from Jesus; rather than to focus in His eyes and life. John 18: 33-38 comprises the Jesus I am, not only to know and believe, but the King Jesus and Person from God for the entire world. The basic realities are that Jesus is the King coming into the world for the purpose of truth. He is presently setting up a kingdom not of this world, but a kingdom that comes to this world in truth. By listening to Jesus, I am a recipient of God’s very best plan out of His heaven. God’s wonderful plan of truth through Jesus Christ setting up His place in my world and heart is too wonderful to fathom. Yet, the world attempts to pull me away from heaven to our present world. There are two worlds (kingdoms if you will). One I am living in, but not to be comfortable in. The other world is the world of truth flowing from God through Jesus Christ who has come. I must choose between these worlds. I must not allow the passions of this world to pull me away from God’s world now being set up within me. Pilate gave the Jewish leaders their choice of freeing Barabbas or Jesus. Barabbas rebels against Rome on behalf of Israel. Jesus comes to Israel to win the world through His laying down of life so the world could be free from sin; as we see in John 18:38-40. Most people would chose to fight for this world; while Jesus was fighting for another world through His death. I must choose Jesus. It is in choosing His world where my world becomes brighter; even in this lonely world.
