The Johannesburg Roads Agency (JRA) is warning motorists of possible delays on M1 Southbound due to the mudslide that occurred on the 2nd September 2013, caused by a section of water-pipe that was cut-off at the valve by vandals, in Newton Street, which is situated above the M1 in Killarney. There will be possible delays until repairs are effected. In order to repair the damage it is necessary to remove the mud, which is extremely wet and due to the nature of the soil will take approximately 7-10 days to dry out. The JRA is treating the repair of this embankment as an emergency, and will minimise the reinstatement period as far as possible. The community is requested to come forward with any information that relates to the vandalism of the water valve that led to this mudslide. City assets are under criminal attack and community assistance is required to prevent further damage and loss of lives. The JRA would like to apologise for the inconvenience caused and thank all road users for their patience.
