The John C. Strother School at 1337 18th Street (Dixie Hwy.) at the south east corner of Dixie Hwy. & Wilson Ave.. I do not know when this building was built, but before it was the John C. Strother School it was the Columbian School. I have found records of it being the Columbian School from at least 1895 till 1923, and the John C. Strother School from 1925 to 1958, but I know it was still the John C; Strother School in 1965-66 school years as I was in the 1st grade at this school. So it looks like it was the John C. Strother school longer than it was the Columbian School. I went to Head Start and most of the 1st grade at this school, back in Jan. 1966 when my family moved from Ormsby Ave. to P.R.P. this school was a City School and all the schools in Jefferson Co. was Jefferson Co. Public Schools. Im not sure what year all schools in Louisville became Jefferson Co. Schools, but maybe that is when this school quit being a school. I am pretty sure I remember that it was not a school in the late 70s..Thanks to DG Taul for this photo.
