The Jordan Olympic Committee has just completed its first phase of The Training of Trainers on Olympic Values that is conducted in collaboration with AMIDEAST/Jordan. A group of highly motivated alumni of the Kennedy Lugar Youth Exchange & Scholarship program [YES], were provided with the necessary coaching and capacity building to become certified trainers. In turn, they will deliver training on Olympic Values to hundreds of public school students participating in the English Access Microscholarship Program, as part of Access’ cultural enhancement component. Both Access and YES are US State Department funded programs implemented by AMIDEAST in Jordan. Ms. Narin Haj Tass, Knowledge, Education and Training Manager at the Jordan Olympic Committee commended the YES Alumni, remarking that their group was one of the most committed and engaged groups that her team has ever trained. The four day Olympic Values Education Program [OVEP] workshop, used an interactive training methodology to deepen the participants’ knowledge of the five core Olympic values of Fair Play; Respect for Others; Joy of Effort; Pursuit of Excellence; and Balance between Body, Will & Mind. The YES alumni were also trained on presentation skills, formation and management of committees, and working as a team. The Olympic Values Education Program [OVEP] is an element of the International Olympic Committee’s global youth strategy, designed to maintain young people’s interest in sport, encouraging them to practice sport, and promoting the Olympic values. A new group of alumni will be trained soon, while this group of newly minted trainers starts implementing the OVEP in Access schools this coming May.
