The Journey Ahead: As I look forward to this new beginning, I - TopicsExpress

The Journey Ahead: As I look forward to this new beginning, I continue to reflect on the individuals who worked tirelessly and gave sacrificially over these past two years. I am grateful to have a supporting family and many friends who believed this journey could be possible. My dear wife Kelly was a champion and never wavered despite the improbability of this dream, so it was fitting to have her with me when I walked into the Congressional chambers for the first time. It was in this moment when the history of that great room merged with God’s guidance in my life. Any celebratory demeanor was tempered by the overwhelming sense of honor and humility in reflecting on my role as a Member of the United States Congress. Our forefathers, in their great wisdom, provided unparalleled documents and established a separation of powers – three distinct branches of government that have guided our great country. My hope is to keep the Constitution central and daily implement Ronald Reagan’s example of seeing the larger picture by building genuine relationships. It is not only about being conservative; its about the ability to lead. Reagan had this ability and brought about change among his fiercest rivals. This kind of statesmanship is becoming more rare as the rhetoric becomes more vitriolic. I am convinced that connecting with others is essential in leading any organization. As I’ve stated before, leaders bring people together. I’m under no guise that the navigation of these political waters will always be smooth sailing. There will be times when the “Patrick Henry approach” is needed, as liberty should never be negotiated. As the Psalmist writes, “Blessed are those who keep justice, and he who does righteousness at all times.” I intend to build a strong conservative record, and I believe you will be proud of the work of our team. We will not hide from being held accountable. You and I may not always agree on every issue or approach. However, my prayer at the start of this new path is to serve with a genuine heart and to commit myself in restoring this great land to all that it has been and to all it can be. I’m convinced that God will provide the path. Thank you for the opportunity to be your voice and may God bless this great country once again. Rep. Mark Walker – 1/4/15
