The Journey with Ron Moore Family Under Attack | Deuteronomy 6:4-9 Deuteronomy 6:4-9 Hear, O Israel: The Lord our God, the Lord is one. Love the LORD your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your strength. These commandments that I give you today are to be on your hearts. Impress them on your children. Talk about them when you sit at home and when you walk along the road, when you lie down and when you get up. Tie them as symbols on your hands and bind them on your foreheads. Write them on the doorframes of your houses and on your gates. In Deuteronomy 5, Moses reminded the Israelites of the Ten Commandments. These are the “commandments” Moses is referring to in today’s passage. The commands of God are to be on our hearts. Now, here’s the question: How does a person put God’s commands on his or her heart? Here are two things to get you started. Read God’s Word. Get on some type of plan to read the Bible every day. As you read God’s love letter to you, the Holy Spirit impresses needed truth and instruction on your heart. Apply God’s Word. James warns us that reading without applying is worthless. We have to do what God tells us to do. That means we will need to stop some things and start new things. It will call for a rearrangement of priorities. It will demand you do something. Yeah, I know . . . some of you wanted something more profound like “seven crazy radical steps to put God’s Word on your heart.” Sorry. Until we learn the discipline of reading the Bible each day and applying the truth we learn we will flounder in our walk with God. The most crazy and radical thing you can do as a follower of Jesus is to read and apply his Word to all the areas of your life. Father, help us to never be bored with the basics or frustrated with the foundations. Help us as singles, spouses and parents to do first things first. In Jesus’ name. Amen.
