The Judgment of Israel Hebrews 10:28-31 “Anyone who rejected - TopicsExpress

The Judgment of Israel Hebrews 10:28-31 “Anyone who rejected the law of Moses died without mercy on the testimony of two or three witnesses. How much more severely do you think someone deserves to be punished who has trampled the Son of God underfoot, who has treated as an unholy thing the blood of the covenant that sanctified them, and who has insulted the Spirit of grace? For we know Him who said, “It is mine to avenge; I will repay,” and again, “The Lord will judge His people.” It is a dreadful thing to fall into the hands of the living God.” We should always keep in mind to whom this letter was addressed. Paul writes to the believing Jews and warns them not to go back to the old rituals. Therefore we find the comparison between those who violated Moses law - resulting in dying because of these actions - and those who believed in Christ and then decide to turn their backs on Christ. How much greater should the punishment be for those who reject Christs redemptive act on the cross. It should surely be worse than just dying - it should be an everlasting punishment. As Paul says it is a terrible thing to fall into the hands of the living God. Where does this leave us? As faithful children of God we believed and were born-again in the Spirit; so too the Jews who accepted Christ. This is a gift from God (Ephesians 2: 8). Again we see that it does not come from ourselves but from God. Why would we then want to rely on our own works instead of just accepting what Christ already did for us? If you believe that you are saved in Christ, it is a finished act Christ perfected. It does not mean that we can now do as we please.
