The Judo Club at Villanova University collected 1534 pounds of food for our Pantry in two extremely creative ways! On Halloween, rather than relaxing and watching horror movies, the Judo Club decided to go trick-or-treating for a cause! Instead of asking for candy at every home they approached, they asked for cans of nonperishable food items. This ingenious idea, proposed by a member of the team named Kira, enabled the club to collect about $475 worth of food in a single night! Then, a few weeks later, six of these members earned and donated $250 to our Pantry by volunteering to supervise bounce houses at a home football game! However, this club’s generosity does not stop there! They were able to raise money from club members, parents of those members, matches from their sensei and donations from alumni. This money went to purchasing even more food for our Pantry! The amount of effort, consideration and innovative thinking that went into generating these ideas is incredible. Their compassion and commitment to helping our clients is overwhelming. We also wanted to thank Ed and his mother Mary for driving four hours round trip just to deliver this donation in time for Thanksgiving! Ed, you’ve clearly been an incredible role model and positive influence on your former teammates. Thank you for leading by example and sacrificing so much of your time to deliver this donation. We are so grateful to you everyday and to the Judo Club for going above and beyond. All of your actions will go along way toward feeding the hungry in our community. Thank you :)
