The Justice & Civil Rights Initiative at Jacksonville State University will host an open forum on ways to improve relationships between law enforcement and the people they serve on August 25, 2014 at 6:15 P.M. The forum will take place on the 11th floor of the Houston Cole Library in Jacksonville. This event will be free and open to JSU students as well as the general public. Donations will be accepted. Several topics to be covered will include, but are not limited to: - Response times to 911 calls - How police departments can recover from national controversies (Rodney King & the L.A. Riots, Trayvon Martin, O.J. Simpson, etc.) - How citizens can respond to law enforcement positively - Citizens perceptions of law enforcement during high profile criminal investigations - Improving the communitys understanding of the day to day tasks of a police officer - How police departments heal from the killing of an officer while maintaining positive relationships with the community Six panelists have been invited to speak: (Pictured L-R) Kevin Jenkins – Executive Director, Calhoun County 911 Operations Center Captain Cleveland Moore – Commander, Special Investigations Division, Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office, Birmingham Annetta Nunn – Former Chief of Police, City of Birmingham Dr. Jeremy A.
