The Karen for Gary friends and family plan Just what qualifies as a professional services contract? Apparently in Gary, and according to the Karen Freeman-Wilson administration, anything that one of their friends or relatives does! Contrary to what the name implies, evidently, a professional does not necessarily need to be a professional in the true sense of the word. The term “professional” generally refers to attorneys, Certified Public Accountants, engineers, doctors, dentists, and some consultants. I don’t ever think that it was meant to apply to garbage men and snake oil salesmen. But the Gary Sanitary District just awarded a $450,000.00 to D and R Services to manage the drop-off site on West 5th Ave. (City-owned property) They also awarded Bo Kemp $80,000.00 to provide some vague services. Dan Vicari defended the Bo Kemp deal stating that Kemp provides municipal business services. Vicari also says that Kemp participates in audits. This is a little odd because on the same day the GSD awarded everyone’s favorite sketchy accountant, Curtis Whittaker, $120,000.00. The Gary Stormwater Management District awarded him an additional $50,000.00 on the same day. Vicari also stated Bo Kemp is “taking the lead for the city in a waste-to-energy project” (per the Post-Tribune article of 12/15/2014 by Carole Carlson) What a crock! If you missed sitting through his idiotic presentation at City Hall a couple of years ago, try to find it on YouTube. It is a classic bullshit artist in action. He has no idea what he is talking about, and doesn’t even seem to realize that the City of Gary no longer has control over its waste stream that is according to him, “a gold mine”. Kemp also gets money from the City of Gary, and the Airport. He receives well over $300,000.00 in compensation from various taxpayer-funded sources. And it’s only a part-time job! He does not even live here! He lives in New Jersey. It is suspected that the City is also picking up the tab for his plane trips and his hotel lodging while he is in town. So while the rest of the city starves, those close to her draw multiple salaries and stacks of contracts. When voting time rolls around, think Chelsea Whittington!
