The Kegans clan in Coleman, Texas ca. 1885. The people seated are John Ross Kegans (my 3rd GGF and a Mier Expedition veteran). Keegans Bayou in Harris and Fort Bend counties is named for his father. At his right is Clarinda Pevehouse Kegans, my 3rd GGM. She was born near Fulton, Arkansas on the Red River in 1824 just before her family entered Texas. In 1837 she danced with Sam Houston at a ball in thenew town of Houston, Texas celebrating the first anniversary of the Battle of San Jacinto. Standing behind John Ross is my second GGF James Bingham Kegans and his wife, my 2nd GGM Eliza Williams Kegans. To the left of James Bingham with her hand on her grandfathers shoulder is Nancy Jane (Jenny) Kegans, my great grandmother. She taught me how to play dominoes and I still have them on a bookshelf next to my computer.
