The Kennett Humane Department has been busy lately with several cases of neglect and abuse. The calls have been at a high volume. We have so much to update and post. New pictures, stories of forever homes and a lot of good people making a difference. However, I would like to explain a few things and stop a few RUMORS! The Kennett Humane Department is actually a city pound. However because of the wonderful people across the country and the support of our city leaders, we are able to save most of the animals that come into our facility. We are able to help other communities and individuals to the best of our ability. We have made great friends in rescues from near and far. Our facility is very nice. However is could stand to be a lot bigger. (we are working on that) The Kennett Humane Department has been blessed with the things that we need to be a success only because of the support given by good people. The Kennett Humane Department is regulated by the Missouri Department of Agriculture. We must comply with the rules the states has put into place just as other pounds, shelters and rescues must do. Recently someone started a RUMOR that the KHD will put our animals down after the five days required stray hold on them by state law. This is absolutely NOT true. We work hard to save every animal. I want to stress that Kennett Missouri has one of the BEST support systems for our animals around. Our City Council Members are very supportive of the Humane Department and are all animal lovers. Our Mayor, Jake Crafton is extremely supportive of our Department. Mayor Pro Tem Bob Hancock is very involved in our department. The City Officials of Kennett would not stand for our department to be ran any other way! Chief Jim Paine and Major Steve Williams are very supportive of the Kennett Humane Department. Our department works well with the other departments in the city. Randy Carter (Street Dpt. ) and his employees are always willing to help. City Gas Light and Water have donated and helped with repairs. Chief Mallott and the firemen have helped and supported our department in many ways. The court system here in Kennett and Dunklin County could not do a better job of supporting our department and making a difference in the lives of our animals. I can not stress how blessed our department is to have such wonderful people involved. The Kennett Humane Department may be a "little pound" but we work in big ways and have a lot of big hearts making us successful. Once again I want to stress that our animals will be vetted, will be taken care of and loved until they find a rescue or a forever home. Our favorite saying here at KHD is, "death is not an option" we give each one of them the best chance at life we can. "Thank You" to everyone that makes a difference in the life of an animal. "
