The Khama election promises letters. Tautona kg sent - TopicsExpress

The Khama election promises letters. Tautona kg sent electorates letters during the campaign promising to improve service delivery on pressing issues of education, land provision , public health and sanitation, youth unemployment. My emphasis is on the presidents promise to improve service delivery on land provision. The status quo in land provision is gloom. Hundreds of thousands of batswana mainly youth are on land board waiting lists across the country. The problem is the number of peope applying for land is greater than the number being given plots annually. Simple arithmetic tells us the already huge land board list is infact growing instead of reducing. Simple logic states that whatever interventions the ministry of lands has been doing over the years to distribute land to Batswana is failing to reduce the collosal land allocation backlog. I hv interacted with land board employees Ko kweneng land board last July following up on my residential plot aplication mo moleps eke aplaetseng ka 2002, 12 yrs ago. I sought to find out from them what the main problem is that causes their landbod to fail so dismally to give batswana land for shelter. Most of them pointed to lack of capacity n resources to acquire land from masimo n meraka around towns n villages and to service that land n allocate it to batswana. This brings me back to pres kgamas election promises of increasing land servicing n allocation if elected into power. Batswana have elected Khama into office. Its time for him to start delivering on his promise. Delivering serviced land to tens of thousands of batswana annually means accelerating the acquisition of masimo around towns n villages. For Khama to b seen to be taking steps to kip this election promise means we must see a much biger allocation of funds to the ministry of lands starting in the 2015-16 national budget. The budget will be unveiled first week of feb2015. I n hundreds of thousands of land seekers will b watching the budget allocation for lands ministry with keen eyes. Will the lands ministry budget show a considerable increase commensurate with kgamas accelerated land delivery promise? Or will the budget allocation for ministry of lands n housing for the financial yr 2015-16 be more or less equal to that of the past FYs? The devil is in the details. If the budgets r more or less equal that will show land delivery will continue at the present snails pace. And the land board waiting lists will continue to grow across the country . We will continue to live with our parents n grandparents in their yards. It will be business s usual at domkop govt. looooong unending land board waiting lists wil b continuing to grow. Yet the president had promised he will accelerate not just land delivery but job creation too. I m waiting for the budget speech with keen interest I urge cmds who r wasting their breath arguing about models of cooperation to stop that n instead point their guns at the govt in power n put pressure on it to deliver jobs, quality education , serviced land, quality health and sanitation services. Leave models of cooperation for their time n for our leaders. U r barking up the wrong trees guys. Let us put more pressure for the govt to deliver on its promises. After all the pres said the Economy has improved so his govt budget must reflect that.
