“The Kid” I love when customers pull me aside to tell me how great one of the guys in service is. They don’t always remember the name of who helped them so when I ask, they usually just start to describe the person. It’s funny that when they try to describe Shane, they refer to him as “the kid”. What makes this funny to me is how far Shane is from a “kid”. Inside the vast compliments that customers share with me about Shane there is always an underlying word respect. I have had the pleasure of working alongside Shane for about a year now and witnessing what everyone talks about first hand. He is a very well spoken, hardworking and dedicated individual. What impresses me the most about Shane is that he starts fresh with everyone he meets to earn their trust, friendship and respect. Shane is a veteran and a recipient of the purple heart. He already deserves everyone’s respect but Shane does not see it this way. To him, it’s not just about what he did in the past, it’s about what he can do today & tomorrow. He is very modest in his achievements. Today I had the pleasure of seeing Shane receive a bike built by Harleys-For-Heroes. This bike was built by his fellow veterans with all donated parts. It is inspiring to see this all come together. From the parts being donated one at a time to the time invested in turning those parts into a running motorcycle. A Harley-Davidson built on a strong frame composed of respect and brotherhood. I know you dont think you deserve this Shane, but you do! It is only when you truly understand the definition of respect that you are capable of achieving it. You have done just that. You have earned the respect of many. Thank you Harleys For Heroes & Appalachian Harley-Davidson for helping to make this possible. Thank you Shane Travis Betts, not only for what you have done but for what you continue to do. You bring much needed hope and inspiration to our generation and have gained an awful lot of respect for only being a Kid.
