The King Is Coming! In 2 Samuel 6:12-15,17 King David finally brought the ark of Gods Covenant into Jerusalem and placed it in a beautiful tent above the city. The ark represented the Presence of God on earth, and the event of its arrival in the holy city was monumental. David went home that day and wrote Psalm 24. It is a celebration of God ruling over all the earth. IT is a song of joy that God Himself had come to reign over His people from His Tabernacle. David begins by asking Who may ascend into the hill of the LORD? Or who may stand in His holy place?... [Psa 24:3 NKJV] His answer: Only those whose hands and hearts are pure, who do not worship idols and never tell lies. 5 They will receive the LORDs blessing and have a right relationship with God their savior. [Psa 24:4-5 NLT] Then he asks a second question: Who is this King? This King of Glory? None other than, The LORD, strong and mighty; the LORD, invincible in battle. 9 Open up, ancient gates! Open up, ancient doors, and let the King of glory enter. 10 Who is the King of glory? The LORD of Heavens Armies--he is the King of glory! David was celebrating that the very God of the Universe, the King of the whole earth, was pleased to make His dwelling place on earth with His People. But Psalm 24 has another face. Psalms 22, 23, & 24 are often read in sequence because they portray the Lord Jesus in His Past, Present, and Future roles. In Psalm 22 He is the lamb upon the cross slain for our redemption. In Psalm 23 He is the Shepherd of His sheep, in HIs current role tending after His Church in the midst of her enemies. In Psalm 24 He is the soon coming King of the earth - returning to His throne in triumph over HIs enemies! IT is a messianic Psalm predicting the Day when the King of Glory, the Lord Jesus Himself, shall return to the earth to destroy the enemies of His People and rule the world in righteousness! On that day the Lord Jesus shall return and the angels shall cry, Lift up your heads you gates and you everlasting doors, For the King of Glory shall come in!
