The King is leaving; 11 weeks to go: The early days. “And Jesus increased in wisdom and stature, and in favour with God and me.” [Luke 2; 52] We do not read much of the Lord’s early life and this glimpse in Luke’s Gospel provides us with almost all we have. At the age of twelve, the Lord would, like all the elite, prospective Rabbis, have memorized the first 5 books of the Old Testament. He was practicing the Rabbinical method of, “..both listening to (the teachers) and asking the questions [46]. No wonder, “..all who heard Him were astonished at His understanding and answers” [47]. When the Lord referred to being, “about My Father’s business” [49], this was a vital element of His preparation for coming temptation, service, scrutiny and teaching. I am conscious I am struggling with a mystery here: how could the Lord Jesus Christ, the Son of God and God the Son, increase in wisdom [52]? But this I do know that this Man fulfilled every word written about Him, exactly in detail and time, knowing when His hour had come for all things.
