The Kingfisher pub in Rotherham will be subject to more stringent - TopicsExpress

The Kingfisher pub in Rotherham will be subject to more stringent licensing conditions following a full review of the premises. The pub, which is on Mary Street, has been at the centre of many incidents reported to police in recent months, including allegations of violent disorder and drug-related crime. Acting on this, Chief Inspector Ian Womersley requested an expedited review under the Licensing Act. This was heard on Christmas Eve by Rotherham Borough Council’s Licensing Sub Committee and members chose to suspend the premises licence pending a full review of the licence. The full review was held on Thursday 15 January and concluded that the premises licence should have more exacting conditions attached to the licence. This includes a reduction in the hours the premise can operate and removal of the current Designated Premises Supervisor. Chief Insp Womersley said: “The decision of the licensing committee is a really positive step for Rotherham and demonstrates that, alongside our partners, we take firm and robust action against any local business or licensed premise that is found to be sub-standard. “This pub has been at the heart of many community concerns and incidents of disorder and I want to reassure the public that those concerns have been listened to and acted upon. “Police and partners will work alongside the premises licence holder to ensure that the Kingfisher’s standards improve and it becomes a safer place for the local community to enjoy.”
