The Kittitas County Sheriffs office says the fire burning south of Vantage, WA, on the west side of the Columbia river is estimated to be 38,000 acres. From the Kittitas County Sheriffs Office: On July 18, 2014 at 4:20pm Kittcom received information of a fire being spotted south of I-90 in the area of Ryegrass and the Yakima Training Center. The fire has moved southeast towards Huntzinger Road and the Auvil Fruit Company. There were 69 people including a fire truck stranded in the Auvil Fruit area cut off by the fire reaching the only access road, Huntzinger Road. Of those stranded 40 people self-evacuated via the Priest Rapids Dam. Twenty Nine people are sheltering in place at Auvil Fruit. As of 7:55pm the Kittitas County Emergency Operations Center was initiated. A unified command has been established with several agencies being represented including the Yakima Training Center, BLM, Red Cross, Grant County PUD, Kittitas County Sheriff’s Office, Washington State Patrol, Kittitas County fire districts 1, 2, 4 and 8. The fire is at 38,000 acres. No injuries have been reported at this time. Three structures have been lost in the Getty’s Cove area. More information will be made available at a later time.
