The Kokomo Police Department’s Citizens’ Police Academy is now accepting applications for its upcoming class. Members of the public who are interested in attending the 8-week session may obtain an application at the Kokomo Police Department, 100 S. Union Street, front lobby display area, or under the KPD Forms and Applications section at cityofkokomo.org. There is also a link on the KPD Facebook page to the City website, cityofkokomo.org/ All applications are to be returned to the Kokomo Police Department by Feb.27, 2015. Applicants who meet the requirements will receive an acceptance letter. The purpose of the Citizens’ Academy is to increase the public’s understanding of law enforcement duties and responsibilities. There is no charge for the classes which are designed to give citizens information relating to the training police officers are provided. The eight sessions are held once per week on Wednesdays. The Classes are at the City Building Council Chambers, 100 S. Union St., from 6:00 p.m. - 9:00 p.m. The first class will start on Wednesday, March 4, 2015. The class will not meet April 8, 2015, and graduation is scheduled for April 28, 2015. The Citizens’ Academy will take 25 applicants. Applicants must be 18 years old with no felony record or criminal arrests within a three year period of the March 4, 2015 start date. Applicants are subject to a background check. Applicants must attend 7 out of 8 sessions to graduate. Those who graduate will receive a certificate and become eligible to become a member of the Kokomo Police Department’s Citizens’ Academy Alumni Association.
